Valentine Card 2012 Iris Folding: No pattern, No Twist!

I love the look of Iris Folding but don't always want to follow a pattern. A while ago I came across this technique that looks like Iris Folding but it has no pattern and no twist. I decided to try it with a heart shape that I cut out with a Spellbinders plain and then a scalloped heart. I folded 1" X 3" strips of used Christmas gift wrap paper in half. I started at the bottom of the heart and taped the strips to the back of the heart, straight across and worked my way up to the top. The folded edge of each strip was always toward the top of the card. As in regular Iris Folding, the back looks messy and is a little bulky, but it looks nice when you turn it over and see your finished project.

It is best to use thin paper for the folded strips rather than card stock. I plan on using this technique to make four leaf clover St. Pat's Day cards using my Sizzix clover die cut and green designer paper for the strips. For Easter cards I want to use my Sizzix Easter egg die, to cut out a few Easter eggs and then use a variety of designer paper scraps in pastels to fill in. This is a great way to use scraps! I always liked this little Christmas tree rubber stamp. It is marked Smith and Rowe, Las Vegas, NV. I hope that means it was MADE in the USA! My Christmas cards ARE made in the USA! Have you got a lot of "leftovers" from previous Christmas cards? I have been trying to use some of mine and these two cards are the result. The background paper is from an old stash I got at Michael's years ago. The tree is a Spellbinders diecut with the positive image of one designer paper adhered inside solid green card stock. These are some of my Thanksgiving Easel cards for this year. The cornucopia image is from Stampin Up, colored with Copic markers, die cut with Nesties Labels Three. After looking at these photos, I went back and added darker Copics outlines around all of the the pumpkins and blended again. Lots to learn with these markers, but I am enjoying the journey. Here is a RECYCLED HALLOWEEN card. The background was a Halloween envelope that I trimmed down to use as a background layer. Then I used an oval paper punch to punch out two of the spiders from a scrap of the envelope, glued them together, added spooky string and adhered to the sign.

This is one of my favorite Fall images from SparkleNSprinkle. It's from Stamp Set 227 Harvest Scarecrow. I use it every year around this time. But this year I did not have to cut it out myself because I used the NEW Cutting Edge Cut File that coordinates with this set, CE131. No scissors!
After cutting the image with my Pazzles Inspiration Cutter, I used a stamp positioner to stamp with black ink and then colored with Copic markers. I adhered the image with foam pop dots for a little dimension. I like the white border. Thanks for stopping by. More to come!

HAPPY ST. PATRICK's DAY!

I have been learning something new. It is Japanese Braiding called KUMIHIMO. This is done on a small inexpensive loom and is very portable and very relaxing. You can google "Kumihimo" and will come up with ALL kinds of videos, kits, tutorials and gorgeous examples. My work so far has come mainly from Lytha Studios Kits. I am very satisfied with their materials. I created the braids below using the beginner kit and instructions. The first one I made to wear today for St. Patrick's Day! I got a lot of compliments on it!

The green beaded pendant is similar to one I purchased at a craft show years ago in Florida. I call mine a BEAD COLLAGE. My bead collages look quite different from what I purchased because I use a lot more beads and it is larger than the one I bought. I still want to give credit to the original lady who came up with the idea. This black and white kumihimo braid was made using nylon crochet cord that I had in my stash. I am trying to use what I have on hand. The pendant was purchased at a flea market and looks like silver and onyx, but who knows. I have had it for years. This braid gives it new life and brightens up a white T-Shirt.

This pink kumihimo braid and heart pendant came as a complete kit from Lytha Studios. It was a pleasure to make and I love the way it turned out. Maybe you might like to try kumihimo. Thanks for stopping by!

SUNNY SIDE UP!

This birthday card was created using Inky Antics rubber stamps. It's a whimsical card for a fellow rubber stamper. The front "window" is cutout with a Nestie, deckle edged rectangle die cut. The CS is textured, dark green on the front and white on the inside.

Here is a peek at the inside. The image was stamped on plain white CS, cut out with the same Nestie die, aligned and adhered.

BIG MAMA...You're No Longer A Spring Chick!

These rubber stamps from Art Impressions are among my favorites. This image has attitude and I always enjoy sending her off to someone with a great sense of humor.
The first picture shows her with a "Tab" pulled up to reveal the sentiment. A small purple brad allows the sentiment to remain hidden until the pink arrow is pulled up. You will have to play around with measurements to "hide" the sentiment underneath the main image.

Here you see the pink arrow "tab" directing the recipient to pull out the hidden message. This is how the card looks when it comes out of the envelope.

Again, once the pink arrow is pulled up, the message is revealed.

This is inside the card. This image is from Inky Antics. ("Hi Chickie" as well.)

Here is a closer look. This is a whimsical card and hopefully will bring a smile to a friend.

Golf Themed Get Well Card

Hello! I "borrowed" the idea for this Get Well card while browsing in the drug store, greeting cards section. The sentiment is computer generated. The stamped golf bag image is an old one from a garage sale. The inside images are from the Dollar bin at Michael's. You can substitute any golf RS images you have.

I stamped the image on chip board for a more masculine feel to it.

Here is the first opening of the inside of the card. You see a small brown paper bag glued to the inside of the card and folded in half. The golf images are stamped in black dye ink.

Then you unfold the brown paper bag and flip it up to see the whole brown paper bag. It's REALLY a light weight golf bag! Clever, and I wish it was my own idea, but as I say, I "borrowed" this idea from a similar greeting card in a drug store. I purchased a lot of these small brown paper bags from Costco. Now I need to find more ideas on using them.

Valentine Cards Using YooClik

Just getting back to my blog. I have been making Valentine Cards using the new graphics recently added to YooClik.com. I printed out two pages of the graphics and created the following Valentine Cards. These cards are easy so I'll just add comments under the cards.

Here I combined two YooClik images (rose and oval frame) then used Nesties to die cut, pierced the scallops and adhered with dimensionals. There is a pink thread bow added at the top.
Here I combined stampin up images with the new (bottom) swirly heart image from YooClik. This is one of my new favorite YooClik Valentine images and I plan on printing more of these swirly hearts, in various sizes, and other shades of pink and red to make my Valentine Cards. There are a lot of new images available that are similar to digital images and for a very small monthly charge. BARGAIN!!

This was so easy. I just printed the image as is and diecut with Nesties and layered! I like pink and gray.

Here is a close up. Notice the pink craft thread bow and the straight pin with the paper heart adhered.

This cute bear originally has an empty sign so that you can add any personalized message that you choose. (Like a child's first name!) I added the "Beary message" and also added the Valentine sentiment on the bottom, as well as the red hearts. Just click, drag, drop and print. This is an easy way to make a lot of children's Valentine cards in a short time. I added a bit of purple ribbon and a straight pin with red and white seed beads. The BG is embossed with Cuttlebug hearts embossing folder.

The BG is another new YooClik image! You can make it as light or as dark as you prefer with a slide of your mouse! The little bear is covered in kisses! So Cute! I diecut and layered with Nesties, inked the edges and added some gold rick rack and red lace.

This little YooClik bear image is also new. I just typed the bottom question and clicked "add."

I used a Nestie diecut for the paper piercing.

NESTIES CHRISTMAS TREE PAPER PINS AND ORNAMENT

As mentioned in the previous post, these are Paper Pins made with the Nesties smallest Christmas tree die. I die cut two pieces of green card stock and one piece of chip board and modge podged them together and let dry. Next I modge podged the front of the pin and added seed beads, thread and paper stars. Dab a little extra modge podge to secure your decorations and let dry. Last, I modge podged the back, cut a strip of card stock small enough to fit a safety pin and adhered the pin, in an upright position. This is easy and fun. I have been wearing one for a few days now and it is holding up just fine.

This hanging ornament (front and back showing here) uses the middle sized Christmas tree Nestie die cut, and the beautiful matching image is from SparkleNSprinkle.com. First, I stamped the image on white card stock in red ink and then in green ink. Next I die cut both images, added two stars and ribbon. The edges are inked and the tree is sponged with green ink. This is fast and easy and could also make a cute gift tag.

Here is my new favorite set of Nesties from Spellbinders and matching rubber stamps from SparkleNSprinkle. You can get them in a combo pack from SparkleNSprinkle.com. I bought my combo set at the Grand Opening of the SparkleNSprinkle Store in Ruskin, FL and have been making cards, ornaments and paper pins for this Christmas season. I wasn't going to buy more craft items, but I could not resist this temptation and now I am glad I didn't. These three cards are made with the largest of the three Christmas Tree dies. In my next blog I will show the ornament and the paper pins using the medium and small dies.

Are you wondering WHY I would post a Valentine Card on November 1, 2010? I just made it for a display of cards and paper craft projects for our "Hi Neighbor" evening this week. TEA BAG FOLDING 3-D CHRISTMAS TREES

Greetings! I have lots to post so here goes!
I used the Tea Bag Folding pattern and images from YooClik.com to create these hanging, three dimensional decorations. They are small enough to hang on a Christmas tree and will also work, as home decorations. Here, I taped a pencil on the door to show the size of the hanging ornaments. :) With YooClik.com, I printed three of the same graphic in small, medium and large. One click resizes the image automatically! It's SO easy!

The instructional video for the Tea Bag Fold pattern is HERE. Use the Christmas tree pattern to make two trees the same size, and glue them together with a ribbon at the top. ANYTHING goes for trimming your trees! Enjoy!

YOOCLIK TEA BAG FOLD BIRTHDAY CARD

This card was created using two sizes of a YooClik.com software image. YooClik is a NEW software program that you can add to your paper crafting tools. It has limitless possibilities. Check it out at http://www.yooclik.com. There you will find a video that explains how YooClik works! Also, there are lots of FREE downloads to try with directions.
I chose this image because it is symmetrical which is perfect for Tea Bag folding. I printed out four images about 3 inches in size, and four images in 1.5 inches in size. All eight images fit on one sheet of white copy paper. Next, I cut and folded four squares for the bottom layer and four smaller squares for the top layer. I glued them together side by side and added a blue brad. I added a Cuttlebug embossing folder layer and a HB sentiment from SparkleNSprinkle.com. Here is an authentic piece of sea glass from the Oregon coast. It was hand picked by my Fabulous Friend, Norma as she was strolling the beach with her husband. This Get Well Card was created using Clear Dollar Stamps and a light blue CS base with yellow, brown and white layers of Nesties. I colored the horse with watercolor pencils and the leaves with metallic pastel watercolors. The background is an acorn stamp from Clear Dollar Stamps and I added a pale yellow bow. Happy Birthday Card With Dog Theme!

Here is a cute Happy Birthday Card with a dog theme. The images are from inkadinkado.com and the embossing powder is from SparkleNSprinkle.com. I used a gray CS for the card base and a second layer of blue CS with StampinUp's "Mover and Shaker" die to die cut the opening "window" for the dog. The "H" in Happy Birthday is made with paper punchouts of a dog bone, and the individual letters are punched out and adhered in a cheerful jumble fashion.

This is the first layer opened, to show the embossed dog, and his red bow tie made of crochet thread.

Here is a simple NOTE OF THANKS, TY card. I started with black CS and layered musical notes DP from Michael's. I used an image from Westwater Enterprises (Note Of Thanks) that I got at the Dollar Store. I stamped it with Memories black dye ink, die cut it with Nesties Labels Seven and added another black CS layer to pop it up a bit. The quarter note is a Cuttlebug die cut and it is adhered to an oval shape of white CS. Many edges were inked with red dye ink. A small red ribbon bow was added to the top left for balance. Hello! Just finished one hundred Christmas Treat Boxes for The Christmas Walk that will take place here in Sun City Center in early December. This will be my contribution to the GONE STAMPIN CLUB. Here is a Tea Bag Fold Medallion on a Birthday card. The tea bag medallion was made by stamping eight images in red and four images in blue on white copy paper. The RS image is from Impression Obsession Clingables Tea Bag Squares 2 #3024-XL. (Love them!!) RECYCLED NEWSPAPER AD CARD

I was going to run errands this morning but it was raining with thunder and lightning so I shut down the computer and went into the studio to PLAY! I had a leftover advertisement from Sunday's Tampa Tribune featuring Disney. It looked like designer paper to me so I used my square paper punch and punched out several squares and thought, "What Now?"

I used four squares for a tea bag fold medallion. Then I made a "Z Fold" card base (Z Fold Directions here!) and used Labels Five Nesties for layering under the medallion. I cut more of the advertisement and used it as DP BG layers for the inside and for the back. Ha! It needed more, so I punched out corners, added a favorite sentiment from SparkleNSprinkle, a brad and a bow made from blue string. It's cute enough! Thanks for stopping by!

This embossing folder from Cuttlebug is really nice. I have had it for a while and have been wanting to use it. It is blank on the bottom right corner so I added a tea bag fold medallion using tiles that I printed free from http://paperprintables.com. PaperPrintables is one terrific site. This Happy Birthday card features a teabag fold on the inside with a window punched out on the front of the card. I created the teabag fold using white craft ink from Stampin Up on red copy paper. I let it dry overnight and then used the multi petal flower pattern to fold four squares and adhere them to blue CS. The RS image is from Magenta. The Happy Birthday punch is from Martha Stewart as well as the balloon punch. The diamond border punch is an old Fiskars border punch. The ribbon is from my stash. This charming bunny in a basket is from an old Stampin Up Set titled: "Serene Spring." The layers are Nesties Label Four and Cuttlebug embossing folder Swiss Dots. There is something very relaxing about Tea Bag Folding and after last night's storm, I thought I would take a little break and do some more Tea Bag Folding. Flower Basket Card from Clear Dollar Digital Images

I wanted to try the digital images concept, and Clear Dollar Stamps was offering a free digital image. I downloaded, saved and printed this pretty Flower Basket. I was wondering how to color the digital images since I have a regular HP Printer with regular ink. I hoped the printer ink would not smudge or bleed into the image when I colored it. To be safe, I let it "dry" or "set" overnight. I used markers and colored pencils with Gamsol to color it. No smudges! The layering papers were re-purposed CS from an advertisement I got in the mail! (Recycling Rosie, that's me!) This is something new to me and I can see how it has a place in the paper crafting world. Next I am going to try watercolor pencils in coloring this image.
